We love Urumqi, Turpan and especially NUR! He is fabulous. His command of English is excellent. He has helped me improve both my Chinese and Uygur! The history, culture and overall feeling is really terrific. And, I cannot imagine doing this without the expert and professional assistance from Nur! His guiding skills are second to none! Leon, he needs a raise! Right away. I feel absolutely certain that I am not alone in praising his skills. His command of English, Chinese & Uygur allows him to share nuances and subtleties that we would never experience without him. He is at once a professional guide and a trusted friend. We recommend him with our absolute highest rating.

Dear Leon,

Guide in Guilin:
Guide 'Jenny': Jenny did a great job getting us on the Li River at the last minute! Compared to our other guides, her English was a bit hard to understand at times, but she did a great job of helping me to improve my Chinese-which I really appreciated! She also did a great job helping us learn a bit more about Chinese Medicine-which was off script (and very much appreciated by us!).

Guide in Lanzhou:
Michael did a great job of helping my son find food! That was quite nice! Michael's english was good! With respect to the guiding aspects, we got the feeling that he has lost a bit of his excitement. We understand how hard it is for a guide to be enthusiastic and motivated 24/7, but Michael seems like he might be tiring of the routine? He would most like appeal more to folks who are formal and serious, not 'class clowns' (new slang word for you!) like us!

Guide in Lijiang:Guide Peter: Jade Dragon etc. Peter has a GREAT attitude. Very enthusiastic and fun to be with! He took us to all the sights and was a great partner to travel with. His English is quite limited, so we were unable to exchange subtleties and nuance of each others lives and culture (which we missed), but his great attitude and easy manner was appreciated by all of us!

Guide in Shangerila:Guide Pema: We like Pema. His Tibetan upbringing gives him a unique perspective. His English was good. However, he either knew very little about the hiking area, or chose not to share. I think it was the former, as he does this trek very rarely. He was quite knowledgeable about the Monastery and gave a great tour. And, took us to a great restaurant for Yak Meat in the old Shangrila City area. All in all, high marks for Pema, but his inability to provide any information on the beautiful flora and fauna we encountered on the hike was disappointing.

Guide in Chengdu:Guide Lisa: She may have been one of the better guides that we had in China. But, the problem was that we had NO TIME to spend together. We did not need guide services. But, her English was excellent and she was very enthusiastic and eager to assist us in anyway. We really liked her and would give her 6's in all survey areas! She took a difficult situation and did the very best she could. Keep Chengdu and Lisa on our list for next year!

We enjoy the tour very much, thank you for all your help!

Brent
