Elaine's Feedback on 9-Day China Tour

Jenny in Guilin was definitely the best guide, she had an excellent command of English and Cantonese and the best part is she took us to the nice local restaurants and let us order what we want rather than what the set menu is.

The tour fitted in nearly all the sights we wanted to go to and starting in Kunming to build up the elevation was the right thing to do, otherwise we would have suffered more in altitude sickness. The Lijiang old town and the lake boardwalk in Shangri-la were both very beautiful.

Jenny in Guilin was definitely the best guide, she had an excellent command of English and Cantonese and the best part is she took us to the nice local restaurants and let us order what we want rather than what the set menu is. There were days in Yunnan where there were just a little too much yak meat and deep fried fat bacon! The drivers were safe and considerate.

The hotels were all at least the 4 star standard that it stated. My favouriate was the Songtsam Hotel in Shangri-la. Although a little out of the city, most of the reception and restaurant staff had very good command of English and was very polite. The place was clean and tranquil.

The Tiger Leaping Gorge is very very nice. It is a little scary from a distance and there are lots of signs indicating falling rocks but when you get to the gorge, it is WOW, there is really a stone tiger there! It is hard to imagine how they managed to place that stone tiger there and it is easy to try to imagine if the legend was true. The waterfalls on the side makes you want to do the 3 day hike on the trekking trail that is also available. Unfortunately, there isn’t enough time and I don’t think I was fit enough to do the trek.

I would recommend any of my friends who would want to do a private tour to China because everything worked out as planned and the guides are fairly flexible in what we want to do. It was also great that we were able to visit the agency in Guilin because it is great to be able to put a face and voice to the people you associate with online.
